Hello everybody! I'm not even going to try to get the spelling right on this one becasue I've just been enjoying the vodka that my wife put in my glass. It has some OJ an cranberry juice in there to. She mixed it a way bit strongeer than normal and I find that My head is listing to the port side and I have deveploped a slight drool. Funny colors are dirty dancing in fromt of my eyes and there are big blutrry spots to. I feell like one of those bobble head dolls. Now might be a great time to discuss quantum mechanics. I am partivularly interested in spin theory and how this might be applied towards the construction of super small high sped circuits for computers. WHat I wanna know is how they get the people shrunk down enough to be able to grab onto the particles and start them spinin soes that they can throw them down the little tubes that hook into the cpu.
Do you think I should visit my mom tomorrow? Shes kinda evil and nasty but its been awhile since I was over ther and she probably deserves some company and help with stuff. Whish my dad was still alive I started being a jw and then he got sick and then he died in a real bad long way and that was before I got out of the borg. And it's sad that I have my college diploma that he always wanted me to have and was so disapointted that I didn't stay in school the first time but let him down by quiting school and working at a factory and now he has been dead all these long years and now I have the degree but it is only a 2 year degree and that wouldn't have been good enough for him anyway so even in death I can't have my dad proud of me and I'm still a screw up.
It's hard to type when your hands are numb and your feet are itchy and yu can't hardly hold your head up.
Hmmm HEH HEh my fingures feel fuzzy. Is that bad?
There was a farmer had a dog and bingo was his name o. b i n g o b i n g o b i n g o and bingo was his name o
rainbows are pretty computers suck sometimes. they work and then they dont and then they do and then you spill your coffee in the keyboard and then they dont again.
I think women are pretty. You know, like rainbows and stuff. My woman is pretty. but she's sick right now so that sucks. Women that are smart are pretty to. They're the best kind. Smart women make me happy bacause I like to talk about interesting things that you should probably be smart if you're going to talk about them. That didn't make sense did it Oh well My wife is really smart and puts up with me really well. That's fortunate for me because some people don't like me. I don't think I have to many friends but I like the ones I have. They're cool to me and We joke around and stuff which nice because I didn't have any real friends when I was a dub. well except my wife cause shes always been cool.
I wish I had a new car cause mine sucks donkey ass. Its old and rusty and ready to fall apart any minute now. i want to get one of those cool hybrid cars so that I don't have to use so much gas.. thatd be good for our aconmy and politics if we didn't need so much oil for gas. also then i wouldnt have so many fumes coming out the back and that helps the planet to. I dont like t think about how much the planet is screwed up by chemicals and polution and stuff because it makes me too sad. So maybe if I can afford a hybrid car someday I can help make that better.
hhmmmm oh well
i getting more woozy now and sleepy. "Poppies will make them sleep. Sleep. Sleep." heh he
ok by then

Movies Better Than The Book
by littlerockguy inalthough it is sometimes hard to put so many elements of a novel into a 2 hour screenplay and motion picture and you end up reading the book and then watching the movie and wish they would have included stuff they left out.
however there are sometimes when you might watch the movie and end up more impressed with the movie and grown more attached to the movie than the book.
can you think of any movies you thought were better than the book it was based on?

I agree about the whole "Lord of the Rings" saga, the movies were better, the books are, IMHO, kind of tedious. (flame-armour ON) : )
I just died a little inside. So very, very sad now.
I'm "a book is better than the movie" guy for the most part.

New Corporate Smoking Policy - Need some suggestions.
by El Kabong ini work for a fairly large corporation.
our company is establishing a new tobacco policy where smokers and tobacco users are no longer allowed to use tobacco in any form, either cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chew, or snuff, anywhere on company property.
this includes inside or outside the building, the parking lot, or even in your own personal vehicle while in the parking lot.

BrentR That is opening a big old can of worms when you consider how many people stink and all of the reasons why. What forms of stink are OK and which ones are not? Where do you draw the line?
Very true, but most every company has policies for dealing with personal hygene, what managers should do about, etc. It is never easy to explain to an employee that they have a body odor that is offensive or bad breath, etc. But it is something that managers and HR people do deal with so that other employees are kept productive and so that customers are not driven away. El Kabong - OH he shot me! Heh. ;) MsMcDucket - Now you're just bein' onery. Cleaning chemicals smell because....well they are usually strong chemicals and chemicals smell. Can't help that. Floor wax (actually, floor finish - they haven't been waxes for years and years) smells because....well once again, it has chemicals (specifically amonias) that need to be there to evaporate so the finish can be applied. We fix what we can and live with the rest. The perfume ban is a great idea though. Many, many people just bathe in the stuff.

Please don't be mad my fellow board posters who are smokers,
but,
As humans we are entitled to at least one unhealthy guilty pleasure. For one person it may be eating a whole container of Bon Bons and for another it may be a cig. None of us should be throwing stones because we all live in glass houses.
If one of my fellow workers goes on break, eats a whole container of Bon Bons, and comes back to work, I won't mind their reek. Why? Because they won't reek. It won't give me a headache or in any other way impact me at work. If a fellow worker goes out for a smoke break, they wil come back reeking, and I and everybody else has to live with it.
This may be one reason why there are complete bans on smoking on company property - even if it is in private cars in the company parking lot. It is actually worse if you confine the smokers when they smoke - it concentrates the reek and they bring it back in. Maybe or maybe not that isn't the reason for the complete ban, but it does deal with that particular problem. I don't think that smokers actually realize how much they stink at work and how disruptive this is to others. The nose doesn't work right if you are a smoker. Factor in the long and extra breaks that I have always seen all smokers take, and it affects the bottom line eventually.
No offense intended, but just the honest truth. Don't shoot me, OK? Can we still be friends?

I haven't figured out how you get off the lozenges but I guess its better than smoking. The problem is that these products are meant for people that are going to quite smoking so I am not sure that you can suggest them to be used only during office hours
I have heard that a doctor told my FIL or MIL (can't remember which one) about the lozenges that you should not treat them like a regular cough drop or piece of candy. Treat it like a cig. You don't smoke in one long continuous draw, you put it down in the ash tray, and let it burn for a while, pick it back up again, etc. In other words, put the lozenge in your mouth, take it out, so on. This simulates the smoking of a cig and eventually lets you cut back and quit.
Don't smoke, so don't know if that helps, but just something I heard.

Good points Abaddon. Funny how people forget pc history at times. Sure, my old DOS 3.0 box booted in about 15 seconds and didn't have many stringent hardware requirements...but I don't really want to go back to the DOS days.
Considering how "crap and slow" many say that Vista is, I find this part amusing from the requirements section of the first post:
The recommended system requirements for TopDesk are:
- Windows XP Service Pack 2.
- 2.0 GHz CPU or higher.
- 1 GB RAM or higher.
- ATI 9800 level, nVidia 6800 level, or higher graphics card
Know what happens if you give Vista the same hardware listed there for Top Desk and not try to short change it? It runs very well.
Funny that.

My new PC Sucks :( HELP!!!
by Nosferatu ini'm sitting here looking at jwd in a 16 color win2k, using my old ethernet card to connect to the internet, and ubuntu linux won't install.. i'm trying to find drivers for my hardware, but it's so new that it's difficult to find anything.
i formatted the hard drive because i didn't want that slow, chunky windows vista piece of shit.
unfortunately, the hard drive also contained the drivers for my hardware (vista drivers of course) and this damn thing didn't come with a cd rom full of drivers.. i'm currently using my old ethernet card to connect, but i can't permanently use it because there's only two spots left on the motherboard - i want to plug in my tv tuner card and soundblaster.. can anybody help me?.

You’ll need at least 2 gigs of RAM to run vista (1 gig for xp), and probably at least 256 megs of video memory (which is integrated on your mother board).
Not to derail the topic here, but just because a lot of people read this board, I gotta dispute with ya just a little cyberguy.
This may be of interest to people who are considering Vista. Sorry Nosferatu - I don't have any ideas for you at the moment - forgive me for hijacking your thread, btw.
Vista will in fact run with 512MB of RAM. Absolutely. Period. Now, I will confirm that it won't run well (and that is a relative term) without at least a gig, but it will run and let you do the basics. Also, the 256MB video req. you listed is just flat out wrong. 128 is the min. and that will run all flip effects, etc.
I know this because I just did 3 test installs for our school with different configs. Version I have been installing is Vista Business, which has higher reqs. than Vista Basic that Nosferatu said he was using. I was getting very positive and perfectly acceptible useability results with P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, and 128MB video. Taking out 512MB auto-turned off the Aero interface stuff and slowed the machine, but it still was usable. I was not able to force the Aero effects on for testing with only 512. At that point, physical memory usage jumped to 58% with nothing open and the pc just sitting there, btw. Having IE and Media Player both running took it to 79% used. I will say that while it will run with only 512, I don't feel at all comfortable with the idea of doing much serious multi-tasking with that amount of RAM. It depends on how a person uses their machine though.
I also had zero driver issues, which was not at all what I expected. In fact, it is the first OS that I have installed at the school that didn't need extra drivers for the machines. Network printer setup was brain-dead easy. Literally 3 mouse clicks installs a network printer. Nice. Install time was roughly half of what it is for XP Pro. Considering that our version comes on 5 CDs (not the 1 DVD of regular Vista) as opossed to the 1 CD of XP, I don't know how MS managed to do that, but I like it.
Just thought I would pass that along to anybody who is hearing horror stories about Vista.
FWIW, my impression of the OS is that it is very intuitively laid out. There are many nice touches that I picked up on.

He came back needing some help and I told him call a wrecker. I am such a bad guy cuz no help from here
What should I have done help him or do what I did and let him stumble along afterall he is cute lol
What should you have done? How about caved his face in with a tire iron for trying to assault you? I absolutely cannot understand how people can go through life thinking it is OK for them to take swings at people. I'm not ranting at you here, but the other guy. One of my mental mottos is, "If you pick a fight with me (physically), I won't be fighting you to fight you. I will be fighting to kill you. Becaue you don't have the right to hurt me physically and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure you don't hurt me anymore than possible." Think about it; we're not in 3rd grade anymore. This isn't two kids fighting over lunch money in the school yard. People need to know that such behaviour is unacceptable and will be dealt with in the harshest of manners. My 2 cents. ps, glad you're OK
